Standish crash sends several to hospital Crash closes Route 25 for more than 5 hours By Craig Smith

Jun 16, 2014

A serious crash in Standish sent several people to the hospital Monday morning.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department said the three-vehicle crash happened in the area of Standish Tire. Route 25 where the crash occurred was closed for more than five hours before authorities reopened one lane to traffic on Monday afternoon.

The crash involved a Hammond Lumber truck, a minivan and a pickup truck.

Police say the Hammond Lumber truck hit the minivan from behind, which was stopped in the road to make a left-turn. The minivan then hit the oncoming pickup truck head-on.

Two people in the minivan were taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the driver of the Hammond Lumber truck, Matthew Wright of Westbrook, was temporarily distracted leading up to the crash. Wright suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized.

The road was reopened at 3:30 p.m., Standish dispatch said.
