Tom Hallett Lectures to the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers on Trial Issues

Hallett, Zerillo & Whipple Managing Partner, Tom Hallett, lectured to a full room of criminal defense attorneys at the Maine Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers annual conference last week. His topic was how to deal with negative evidence in a case when approaching trial. Attorney Hallett's unique strategy and high success rate, combined with over 30 years of trial experience, made this a valuable lecture for all who attended.

Attorney Tim Zerillo Gets Man Who Has Served Nearly 4 Years of a 16 Year Sentence Out on Bail

In a Gross Sexual Assault case in Cumberland County, where a conviction was reversed by the Maine Supreme Court, Hallett, Zerillo & Whipple shareholder Timothy Zerillo was able to get the man bail this week after he served nearly 4 years in custody. The man was originally sentenced to a 16 year sentence. The Maine Supreme Court reversed his conviction. He was given a $50,000 cash bail that he could not meet. Attorney Zerillo arranged for polygraph examinations, and the client passed 2 polygraph examinations. The State has still refused to agree to dismiss the case or release the Defendant. Unfortunately, polygraph examination results are not admissible in evidence. Regardless, Attorney Zerillo prevailed in a contested bail hearing this week, and the client's bail was reduced to $500. He will breathe free air for the first time in nearly 4 years.
